Cars for Homes™ provides another way individuals and groups can contribute to breaking the cycle of poverty and homelessness by donating cars, trucks, boats, RVs, motorcycles or other vehicles.  There is no cost to you and you don't have to live in Lake County. When you donate a vehicle to Habitat's Cars for Homes vehicle donation program, you are helping Habitat for Humanity – Lake County break the cycle of poverty and homelessness in our community.

Types of Vehicles Accepted
Habitat’s Cars for Homes™ automobile donation program accepts almost all vehicles. You can donate cars, trucks, motorcycles, boats, snowmobiles, trailers and recreational vehicles. Airplane and boat donations may require a phone call to see if they meet the minimum criteria.

Condition of the Vehicle
The vehicle need not run but you will be asked to explain the condition of the vehicle. Keep in mind, if the costs of transport and processing fees exceed the auction value of the donation, we are unable to accept the vehicle. As a general rule, if the vehicle is less than 12 years old, runs, has no major damage and no title or major mechanical problems, it is eligible. RVs, boats, motorcycles, older specialty vehicles or those in exceptional condition may be eligible as well.

How to Donate a Vehicle
The car donation process is quick and easy. Start the process online by visiting www.carsforhomes.org , or call 1-877-277-HFHI (4344) toll free.  Before making your donation, you will need to have some basic information about your vehicle available.  Information you will need when making your donation includes: manufacturer, model, year, title, and current mileage.

How Your Donation Will Benefit Habitat
A majority of the net proceeds generated by donated vehicle sales are used by Habitat for Humanity Lake County to build homes in partnership with families in our community. Cars for Homes™ strives to run the most efficient vehicle donation program in the country. We take our responsibility to be good stewards of all car donations very seriously. On a monthly basis, our program has historically received more than 80 percent of the sales revenues. Your vehicle donation will make an impact on the lives of families in need of stable housing by helping Habitat for Humanity build homes and hope. Habitat is providing a hand up, and you can help!

Tax Benefits of Donating a Vehicle
Habitat for Humanity International is a 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization. If you itemize deductions on your income tax return, it may be possible to claim a deduction for your car donation. In general, donors who itemize their taxes may deduct the fair market value of any donated car up to $499. If your vehicle sells for more than $500, you may deduct the full selling price. You will receive the appropriate receipt from Habitat for Humanity for your car donation.

Donor calls and internet donations are processed by Habitat for Humanity International’s authorized national agent, ADESA Impact through their National Vehicle Donation Program. Most whole vehicles (cars, trucks, boats, RVs, motorcycles and other vehicles) are accepted, provided the cost of processing and towing fees do not exceed the auction value of the vehicle.
