Donation Criteria
Thank you for considering the Habitat for Humanity Lake County ReStore for your charitable donation! Please note that the IRS requires your donation to be in "good used condition or better." This is the standard we will use in determining whether we can accept the donation.
Our Donation Criteria is a general guide for donors. Acceptable items are subject to frequent change. Legal restrictions and limited storage capacity prevent the acceptance of some items. Please call (847) 249-3160 or [ email us ] to confirm your donation drop-off or pickup.
We do not trade materials.
Appliances
Must be clean and in 100% working condition
Must have all knobs, trays, burners, shelves, etc.
Dishwashers and Microwaves must be 8 years old or newer
Refrigerators and Stoves must be 12 years old or newer
Water heaters must be 3 years old or newer
Cabinets/Countertops
Only complete cabinets, less than 20 years old, with all doors and drawers attached
We do not accept cabinet doors or drawers by themselves
Must be free of rot and in usable condition
Doors
Must be in good condition, free of rot, cracks, and holes
*We do not accept shower doors*
*We are currently at capacity and not accepting any interior doors, including bi-folds*
Electrical and Light Fixtures
We accept all electrical parts, lights, wiring and hardware
Light fixtures must be in working order
Must be clean and not covered with rust
No fluorescent fixtures or bulbs
*We are currently at capacity and not accepting used brass light fixtures*
Electronics Recycling
The ReStore accepts electronics for recycling
Televisions, computers, cell phones, printers, toasters, and so much more will be accepted
We CANNOT accept microwaves for recycling
We CANNOT accept alkaline batteries for recycling

Flooring
Only new carpet and linoleum will be accepted
Hardwood flooring must be in excellent condition and nail free
Furniture
We do not accept upholstered furniture or mattresses
Must be in overall good condition & need no repair
We must see a picture of the furniture before it will be accepted. Send pictures here.

Hardware
Accept hardware for doors, cabinets, etc.
Must be in good condition and not rusty
Must be separated by type/style
Landscape Materials

New patio and paving stones
Patio furniture
Some bricks
Lumber / Plywood / Siding / Trim
Accept full and 1/2 sheets of plywood
Accept full lengths of lumber (8 ft)
All scraps must be 4 feet or longer
Trim accepted in smaller pieces
Must be free of rot, nails, and screws
Accept new, full boxes of siding only
Money
Monetary donations can be made through our secure online system HERE
Plumbing Fixtures
Should be clean and in usable condition
Toilets must include a tank top
*We do not accept cast iron sinks or tubs*
*We are currently at capacity and not accepting any sinks or bathtubs*
Roofing
Shingles must be in complete packages
Metal roofing in full lengths, if possible
Most roofing material donations are accepted
Occasionally we are overstocked on roofing items. Please call ahead to make sure we are accepting roofing at the time of your donation
Tile
Accept vinyl and ceramic tile, unused or clean
Accept tile as long as there are at least five full boxes
Vehicles
To donate a car, truck, boat or RV, call (877) 277-4344 or visit the Cars for Homes website.
Windows
Prefer windows 10 years old or newer
No cracked or missing windowpanes
No single paned windows
Include all window hardware if appropriate
Window sashes required
NOT ACCEPTED
Paint, unless it is a new and sealed or mistinted and sealed
Broken and old appliances
Drywall
Cast iron bathtubs or sinks
Used carpet
Mattresses or upholstered furniture
Have something we don't take?
SWALCO will take solid waste like opened paint, opened household cleaners, and household electronics.
Love.INC accepts gently-used beds, sofas and clothing.
Salvation Army is a good place to donate your clothing, sporting equipment, books and electronics.
freecycle your item. Offer it for free to other local residents interested in keeping usable items out of landfills.
