Affiliate Tithe

Habitat for Humanity is an international housing ministry building in many of the poorest areas of the world.  We support Habitat’s work in these countries.

What is the tithe?
In covenant with Habitat for Humanity International, affiliates tithe 10% of undesignated donations to sister affiliates.  Acting on the belief that all of our brothers and sisters need at least a simple, decent, affordable, healthy place in which to live, we share the amazing abundance of our God with people we do not know.  We believe that there is enough to go around – if we all share.

As we learn more about poverty around the world we cry over the situations some people are forced to endure.  
• In Egypt, in Ecuador and in many countries of the world entire families live in garbage dumps - they work, eat and sleep in mounds of trash every day.
• In China, people with leprosy, outcasts with no home, now live together as community in homes built by Habitat.
• In most countries large families live in rooms the size of some of our bathrooms or laundry rooms, with little heat and with dripping water over their heads and under their feet.

We cry.  And we pray.  And we tithe on behalf of all of you who support our mission of providing simple, decent and affordable housing for all God’s people.  

Our affiliate takes seriously our tithe.  Sometimes it is hard to send the check when we have bills here to pay.  But, we tithe with gladness that we can share so much.  We believe strongly that as God continues to bless our affiliate with an abundance, we are obligated to share that abundance with our brothers and sisters.  Then, we see, over and over, that the abundance is returned to us through donors and volunteers and magnificent Habitat Partner Families.

Malachi 3:10 Award
In October 2008, Habitat for Humanity presented our affiliate with the Malachi 3:10 Award.  This award recognizes our tithe gifts of over $500,000 since our founding in 1989.  
 

“Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that it may be food in my house.  
Test me in this  and see if I do not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room enough for it.”

Habitat Philippines
For many years our tithe gifts have supported Habitat’s work in the Philippines.  Habitat for Humanity Lake County has built over 200 homes in the Philippines for people we do not know and who we will never meet.  Yet, as we break ground on houses here in Lake County, we also break ground on houses in the Philippines.  And, as we dedicate houses here in Lake County, we dedicate houses in the Philippines.
