Construction

**FOR HOLIDAY CONSTRUCTION VOLUNTEER INFORMATION (DEC. 19-30) PLEASE SEE OUR CALENDAR**

Individual Volunteers
Individual construction volunteers age 16 or older are asked to contact our office each week for site availability and directions.  We work on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.  Our work day is from 8:00AM to 4:00PM with a 30-40 minute lunch break.  We do not offer half or partial days.   Volunteers age 16-17 must have a parent working them for the entire day.  

Crews (group of 3-12)
We work with 2-3 pre-registered crews each weekday (Tuesday thru Friday) and up to 4 pre-registered crews on Saturdays.  Each crew confirmation requires a minimum donation of $2500 along with a completed Crew Registration form.  Please contact Cassie at [ email ] or (847)623-1020 ext 115 if you would like to receive a Crew Registration form.

Regular Volunteers
Be a Construction Superstar by becoming a regular volunteer.  Sign up with Cassie Bertke at [ email ] or (847) 623-1020.

House Leader (HL)

  • House Leaders commit to the construction of 1 duplex (2 houses) under the HFH leadership
  • HLs assist HFH Staff/AC from the foundation through drywall taping
  • HLs plan and supervise volunteers from drywall patching, trim, completion through Punch List
  • Skills: Project management, communication, people, some construction
  • Time commitment: 6 months per duplex, most Saturdays, weekday phone/email connection

    Skilled Leader (SL)

  • Skilled Leaders commit to the leading crews (4-6 people) at least monthly (1st Sat, 2nd Sat, etc)  in at least 1 skill area (siding, drywall, insulation, painting, trim, completion)
  • SLs work as assigned on whatever house needs their skill, with minimal supervision by HFH Staff/AC during the day.

    Regular Volunteer (RV)

  • Regular volunteers commit to at least 1 day a month and work where most needed

    Skilled Crew (SC)

  • Crew of 4-8 people commit to at least 8 workdays a year in 2-3 skilled areas
  • Crews donate at least $100 per person each year
  • Crew members must commit to volunteer at least 8 times a year and attend required training events.
  • Weekday Crews

  • Crew members commit to one work day a week (except for vacations, etc)
  • Crew works together where most needed
  • Wednesday - Habiholics
  • Tuesday/Thursday - Stars

    Finish Team (FT)

  • Finish Team members commit to being on call to help finish houses as needed
  • May work closely with HFH Partner Families
  • FTs begin with painting and stay with house through completion and walk-thru
  • Work under the direction on the House Leader or HFH/AC Staff
  • Assist in Punch List items and complete Walk-Thru with families
  • Register your crew or schedule a workday with Cassie Bertke at [ email ] or (847) 623-1020 at least 24 hours in advance.
