Anisha Barber's Story (Continued)

“I was so excited about owning an affordable home, which would be built from the ground up, brand spanking new.”

At first Habitat sent Anisha a denied letter due to low income.

“God came to me and said, “Don’t get sad, get up and get your bills in order, get your self on track for the next upcoming meeting.  So I did.”

In April 2003, having received a substantial increase in pay, Anisha was ready for the orientation.

“I got a chance to hear one of the Habitat Homeowners testimonies about her experience with Habitat.  Just to see her face light up and hear the excitement in her voice got me even more excited.”

In July 2003, Anisha got the word that she was approved for the Habitat program.

“ Boy, you are talking about some dancing and praising going on that day.   We jumped up and down thanking Jesus.  My seven year old daughter asked, “Why are you crying, you should be happy.  You’re happy right?”  We sat down and I explained to her the tears of joy.  Words can never explain what we felt on that day.”

Also in July, Anisha started college.

“Where would I get the energy to do all these jobs?  I got on my knees that night and prayed and prayed and thanked God hard for all his many blessings.  Then I went to the person that would make all this possible, my mom.  She would care for the kids when I was away at work, school, and doing sweat equity hours.  She said, baby I got your back at all times.  That gave me more then enough energy to accomplish all things God has set out in front of me.  Thanks Ma!

By August 2004 Anisha moved into her home with her children – and her new husband, Thomas.

“So, I just say to you all, thus far has not been easy but, all the tired days and many more to come are all well worth it!  I have faith in God that he has a plan for me and for each and every one of us.  He is the author and the driving force of my life.”

Now in 2008, Anisha completed her undergraduate program and her graduate program at Robert Morris.  She obtained her real estate license and she became a certified tax preparer.  She and Thomas had a beautiful baby girl, Kyra.  They are active in their faith group and in their children’s school.  Their house is beautiful and their yard is green and colorful.  Love comes from each one of them as they give back to their neighbors and their community.

“Once again, thank you to all who’ve made this wonderful experience possible for my family.  I’m still ready to move mountains.  I still want to be a part of Habitat.  I want to give my best asset; time to Habitat and to Habitat families.”

“I sincerely thank the Women Build Committee for sponsoring my family.”
